
Parkinson's and Physical Activity
Physical activity has a positive impact both physically and mentally. It can be as important as getting the right dose of medication.
Being active is important for everyone. It can make you feel good inside and out. It can maintain your health. It can lift your mood. And if you have Parkinson’s, it can help manage your symptoms. The more physically active you are, the easier it is to live well with Parkinson’s. Just like Parkinson’s, the right physical activity is different for everyone and on this page are some activities for people with Parkinson's.
In July 2025, Havant Borough Council were successful in securing funding from Parkinson's UK to run 2 new activities aimed at people with Parkinson's and their carers. The details of the activities chosen details are...

Qigong for Parkinson's
Strength and Balance for Parkinson's
Fridays 1:30 - 2:30pm £2.50 per person
Thursday 1:30 - 2:30pm £2.50 per person
Qigong uses movement and mindfulness to increase flexibility, improve balance and help walking. Concentrating on smooth, flowing movement, along with breathing, helps people with Parkinson’s relax their body.
These sessions will help maintain your general fitness, as well as strength and balance, which is really important for people living with Parkinson's. The sessions are run by experienced Hayling Island Instructor Mel Simms. Please note that there is now a waitlist for these classes, please email us on: infogetupandgo@havant.gov.uk to be added.

📍Leigh Park Boxing Club
Punching for Parkinson's

After a successful taster session the club will be continuing to deliver these classes. These classes take place at the Leigh Park Boxing club, Leigh Park Community Centre, Dunsbury Way, Havant PO95BG. November sessions are as follows: Wednesday 5th, Monday 10th, Tuesday 18th and Monday 24th November 11am-12pm and 12:30 - 13:30pm.
